OF THE
CORPORATION OF THE
Being a by-law of the Corporation of the City of
Cambridge for the purposes of public safety to
prohibit or regulate the discharge of guns or other
firearms, airguns, spring guns, cross-bows, long-bows
or any other weapon and to repeal by-law 62-94.
WHEREAS the Municipal Act 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25 s.119 provides that a local
municipality may for the purpose of public safety, prohibit or regulate the discharge of guns or
other firearms, airguns, spring guns, cross-bows, long-bows or any other weapon.
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the City of Cambridge deems
it necessary to prohibit and regulate the discharge of weapons in the Municipality for public
safety.
NOW THEREFORE, THE MUNICPAL COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE
CITY OF CAMBRIDGE ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: -
1.
THAT no person shall discharge, cause to be discharged or allow to be discharged
guns or other firearms, air guns, spring guns, or any class or type thereof within the
limits of the City of Cambridge except in that area described in Schedule "A" and
shown as the area within the heavy dark line on Schedule "B" forming part of this by-
law.
2.
THAT should any section of this by-law be declared by a court of competent
jurisdiction to be ULTRA VIRES, the remaining parts shall nevertheless remain valid
and binding and shall be read as if the offending section had been struck out.
3.
THAT any person who contravenes any of the provisions of this by-law is guilty of an
offence and upon conviction is liable to a fine as provided for in the Provincial
Offences Act.
4.
THAT this by-law shall not apply to:
a)
Military Companies or Peace Officers in the lawful executions of their duties;
b)
Grand River Conservation Authority employees in the lawful execution of
their duties;
c)
City of Cambridge employees in the lawful execution of their duties;
d)
Ministry of Natural Resources employees in the lawful execution of their
duties;
e)
The legal owner or legal occupant or agent of property primarily used as a
farm for the protection of livestock or agriculture;
f)
Any person discharging firearms as provided for in the Livestock, Poultry and
Honey Bee Protection Act R.S.O. 1990 Chap. L. 24.

5.
Short Title
This by-law may be cited as the firearms by-law.
6.
by-law Repeal
THAT City of Cambridge by-law No. 62-94 as amended be repealed.
