OF THE
CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF CAMBRIDGE
Being a by-law of the Corporation of the City of
Cambridge to prohibit skateboarding on areas set aside
as the Cambridge Farmers Market, Cambridge City
Hall, McIntyre Place and Water Street Parking Lot #2
and to repeal By-laws 198-89, 83-98 and 154-03.
WHEREAS the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25, S.130 provides that a municipality
may regulate matters not specifically provided for by this Act or any other Act for purposes related to
health, safety and well-being of the inhabitants of the municipality;
AND WHEREAS the Municipal Act 2001, S.O. 2001, c.25, s.128 provides that a local
municipality may prohibit and regulate with respect to public nuisances, including matters that in the
opinion of Council, are or could become or cause public nuisances;
AND WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the City of Cambridge deems it
necessary to prohibit and regulate the use of vehicles of any description, whatever the motive power
being used, drawn hauled or propelled in or upon any highway, boulevard, park, park-lot, garden or
other place set apart for ornament or embellishment or public recreation.
NOW THEREFORE, THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY
OF CAMBRIDGE ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:-
DEFINITIONS
1. That in this by-law:
(a) "Vehicle" means a skateboard
(b) "Cenotaph" means any area set apart to honour those lost in war
(c) "Prohibited Area" means the area set apart as the Cambridge Farmers Market, Cambridge
City Hall, McIntyre Place and Water Street Lot #2 Parking Lot, as noted on the attached
Schedule "A" and "B" forming part of the by-law
2. No person shall operate or propel any vehicles along or upon any area set apart as a cenotaph.
3. No person shall operate or propel any vehicles along or upon the prohibited areas.
OFFENCE
4. THAT any person who contravenes any provision of this by-law is upon conviction guilty of an
offence and is liable to any penalty as provided for by the Provincial Offences Act.
SHORT TITLE
5. This by-law may be cited as the Skateboard by-law.
